Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is an affordable housing scheme started by the Central Government with an aim to provide more than 2 crore houses to the eligible citizen of the country by the year 2022. The affordable homes will be provided to urban poor people of the country or to those who belong to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of the society or who are from the Lower Income Group (LIG) category.
Construction of more than 1 crore houses across the country has also been sanctioned by the central government.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin
The central government recently released a state-wise list of selected cities under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2020. Out of the total 4427 cities, 472 cities are class 1 cities in 35 states/UTs.
In this list, Tamil Nadu is leading the way with the highest 666 cities providing affordable housing to the EWS and LIG category.
Whereas Andaman & Nicobar and Daman & Diu are at the bottom of the list with just 1 city selected in each for the scheme.
The central government has signed MoU’s, Established SLNA’s (State Level Nodal Agencies) and formed SLSMC in all 35 states and UT’s across the country.
